Cinco De Mayo Fiesta

What’s Cinco De Mayo without margaritas, beef, and beans? It all tastes great, but gas sufferers know that there’s likely a price to pay for all that partying. Whether you’re celebrating at the local cantina or hosting the party, here’s how to beat the bloat.

Authentic versus ersatz

Think twice if you’re heading to a local franchise of some “Mexican” restaurant chain. Like St. Patrick’s Day (which is likely spent at church in Ireland), this holiday is most often celebrated with drink specials and Americanized versions of traditional foods.

We’re not going to judge if you order a pitcher of margaritas, but consider the holiday’s origins and go to a parade before you head out to happy hour. At the very least, you’ll be able to enjoy a beautiful spring day and squeeze in a walk before indulging.

We’ve found some great alternatives to sugar-laden margarita mixes and heavy, greasy bar food. You’ll have a great time, and your tummy will thank you for finding healthier options.
